A specialized, in-depth chimney inspection is necessary to determine whether repairs or a chimney sweep is required. Unlike other chimney service providers, Total Home Inspection Services only inspects chimney systems. We do not perform cleanings or repairs and have no conflict of interest when recommending further evaluation by chimney contractors.

Our trained, licensed and insured chimney specialist is certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) to perform chimney inspections as defined by the  National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

The NFPA recommends a specialized, in-depth chimney inspection upon the sale or transfer of property, or whenever there are changes made to the system, such as a change in fuel type, chimney relining, furnace replacement or new stove or appliance installation. Our chimney specialist examines all accessible interior and exterior components of the chimney, flue, heating appliance and connections. Every component is inspected, including the damper, firebox, smoke chamber, cap, crown and masonry. Then a special video camera is used to examine and photograph the inside of the flue and chimney and inspect the internal joints and surfaces.

Our chimney specialist is also licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a remote pilot and drone operator. A drone video camera is used to examine and photograph all exterior chimney components and the roof. When THIS performs a chimney inspection, additional close-up photography of the roof will be evaluated and included in the home inspector’s report at no additional cost.
